And your cycle is the preferred choice for this: There are over 12,000 km sign-posted cycle routes throughout the country. Leave the daily routine behind and discover new places and moments.
Day 1: Individual arrival to Copenhagen
Make sure to arrive early in Copenhagen to have time to explore the city, most attractions are awaiting you in walking distance from your hotel. From Nyhavn you can discover most sights by one of the numerous hop-on hop-off sightseeing boats from the water. For lunch you should go for one of those many great options - choose a typical Smørrebrød - Danish for butter (smørre) and bread (brød), which is available in many variations for a light lunch. In the afternoon there is time to visit one of the numerous museums and attractions. More information can be found on visitcopenhagen.com.
Scandinavia is also very well-known for it's New Nordic Cuisine, so if you are a foodie we recommend to book a table in advance. Bike Sweden's favourite guide is the "White Guide", where you can find the best restaurants in the Nordics. Ask us for recommendations!
Day 2: Copenhagen- Helsingør ca. 50 km
You leave Copenhagen heading north. Today's stage will take you along the Öresund, the strait between Zealand in Denmark and Schonen in Sweden. Always with a view of Baltic Sea you will quickly reach the famous beach Bellevue. A swim in the cool water gives you refreshment. In Helsingør it´s worth to visit Kronborg Castle, or take the ferry for a quick trip to Helsingborg on the Swedish site.
Day 3: Helsingør – Helsinge / Hillerød ca. 45-60 km
Take some time to visit the old port city of Helsingør before continuing your bike ride. The coastal resorts Hornbæk and Gilleleje will charm you and invite you to linger. Your further route now leads away from the coast. You will pass extensive nature reserves and small lakes. You will be impressed by the many contrasts before you reach the goal of the day Helsinge or Hillerød, respectively. Visit Frederiksborg Castle or just treat yourself with a good glass of wine in the hotel - both can be a great way to spend the rest of the day.
Day 4: Helsinge / Hillerød - Hundested / Højby ca. 45-60 km
Today you can make your choice between 2 options. One variant takes you back to the coast. The small idyllic villages Tisvildeleje and Liseleje as well as numerous beaches exude their charm. Another route can take you inland via city of Frederiksværk to your today´s destination - Hundested or Højby. The latter one is located on the opposite side of the Isefjord. The ferry ticket to Rørvig is included for you.
Day 5: Hundested / Højby – Holbæk ca. 40-60 km
In the Odsherred peninsula you will always be close-by the sea, dunes and beautiful salty sea air. You will find the most beautiful sandy beaches there. Nevertheless, today's bike tour has more to offer: breathtaking views all along the coast of Isefjord, Lammefjord and Holbækfjord. The goal for today is the port city of Holbæk that was first mentioned in 1199. Here we recommend you to visit the Protestant-Lutheran Church of St. Nikolai.
Day 6: Holbæk – Roskilde ca.50 km
Today you start south along the Isefjord. You will discover green meadows and small charming villages. The last part leads along the bay of Roskilde. The Cathedral of Roskilde welcomes you from afar. Since the beginning of the 15th century, the cathedral was the favorite grave church of the Danish royal family and since 1995 also part of UNESCO World Heritage. A visit to the Viking Ship Museum is also recommended.
Day 7: Roskilde – Copenhagen ca. 35 km
The last stage leads you back to the starting point of your bike tour, the Danish capital Copenhagen. From Albertslund, a recently built bike path will take you to the center, almost free of traffic. In the afternoon there is enough time for you to explore the city on your own. During a stroll, you can fulfil all the wonderful impressions that you have already gained on your bike tour through North Zealand.
Day 8: Individual departure or extra nights
After breakfast, your journey ends. We are happy to book an extension stay for you to explore the Danish capital.
